The Step Pyramid of Djoser, after the completion of restoration works, is ready to welcome the public.
In the early months of 2020, one of the oldest pyramids in Egypt, the Step Pyramid of Djoser, will open for the first time after the completion of restoration works, as announced by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri.
This decision is part of a broader plan by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to protect and revitalize Egypt’s historical sites, according to Egyptian media. Waziri referred to the “oldest pyramid in the world,” where restoration works began in 2006, halted in 2011, and resumed in 2013.
The pyramid, built 4,700 years ago to serve as the tomb of Pharaoh Djoser, has had its exterior facade restored, which will be appropriately illuminated based on studies by British scientists and technicians.
